The Day Trip Of A Lifetime You Can Only Take In Colorado
When you live in Colorado, there is truly no shortage of new things to see and experience around the state… however, if we were to recommend one day trip in particular that we believe everyone should take, it would be the following:
You know all about Colorado’s cities, mountains, and plains… but did you know that Colorado is also home to an arid desert-like area?
Welcome to the Great Sand Dunes National Park; a 44,246-acre park (with an additional 41,686-acre preserve) that houses the tallest sand dunes in the country!
(Didn’t realize Colorado was full of sand? Then you will be SHOCKED to hear that these dunes contain a whopping 5 billion cubic meters of sand within an area of 30 square miles!)
When you visit this incredible area (which is located near Alamosa), make a splash in the delicate Medano Creek, hike through the area’s velvety-soft sand, and look around for resident bighorn sheep, eagles, and short-horned lizards.
After spending a few hours exploring the Great Sand Dunes, it is time to hop in the car and finish out your once-in-a-lifetime adventure at another one of Colorado’s most jaw-dropping wonders…
…Zapata Falls!
Housed inside a bed of colorful rocks, these 25-foot-tall falls may just be one of the most stunning waterfalls in the entire state.
Trust us; the pictures do not do this place justice.
