When it comes to Colorado-inspired horror movies, there is one in particular that will always stand the test of time. It is, of course, The Shining, which was inspired by the historic Stanley Hotel. What you may not realize, however, is that another spot in Colorado was the basis for another creepy cinematic classic So without further ado, here is the disturbing Colorado house that inspired a movie:
Once upon a time, a historic house stood at 1739 East 13th Avenue in Denver that was rented by musician Russell Hunter during the late 1960s. The home no longer stands, but its chilling story will never be forgotten.

While everything seemed normal at first, things quickly took a turn for the worse, as Hunter claims he’d wake up to crashing sounds every morning, noticed faucets turning themselves off and on, and even saw the walls violently shake.

As if things couldn’t get weirder, Hunter soon discovered the home’s hidden staircase, which led him to an old trunk containing the books and journal of a disabled nine-year-old boy.

Only after conducting a séance did Hunter uncover the dark story of the boy’s life. He was the heir to a family fortune before falling ill and dying. His parents secretly buried him under the home and adopted a new child to take his place and fool the rest of the family.

Before moving out of the home, Hunter was granted permission to dig under the structure, which revealed both human remains and a gold necklace inscribed with the deceased boy’s name.

The creepy story inspired the 1980 horror flick, The Changeling, which starred George C. Scott and Trish Van Devere.

Shortly after Hunter moved out, the Cheesman Park residence was demolished and replaced with some high rise apartments. The story, though, will live on in infamy thanks to the movie and lore of The Changeling home.
