If you hail from Colorado, you may feel like the majority of the population was transplanted from another state, which often leads to both jokes and complaints on our end. While some transplants do come here and do nothing but complain (*cough* Californians *cough*), some have brought new foods and traditions to our attention, like the east coast-inspired Davies’ Chuck Wagon restaurant:
Arguably one of the most easy-to-recognize restaurants in Denver is the old Davies’ Chuck Wagon, which is famous for being the only authentic east coast diner in Colorado! Opened in 1957, Davies’ was initially manufactured in New Jersey and moved cross-country to the Centennial State, as founder William Lyman Davies loved the old fashioned east coast diners and thought it worthwhile to ship the 46-ton building (which came in halves) by train.63 years later, Davies’ efforts have proved to be worthwhile, as the Chuck Wagon remains as popular as ever, and has since opened a second location in Wheat Ridge. Aside from the architecture, what makes this National Register of Historic Places-inducted restaurant a must-visit? As you can probably guess, it is the FOOD! Like all great diners, Davies’ has a mouthwatering assortment of homemade breakfast favorites, including steak and eggs, burritos, pancakes, and omelets. In addition to their stick-to-your-ribs breakfasts, Davies’ also offers a mean lunch menu consisting of burgers, sandwiches, seafood platters, spaghetti dinners, and their famous Chuckwagon steaks.
